Speaker: Adwoa Parker
This workshop is part of the Accelerating Clinical Trials – Accélérer les Essais Cliniques (ACT-AEC) collaboration with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. The workshop will be a virtual half-day event on June 9, 2023 from 1:00-4:30 P.M. ET. The workshop, “Reducing Research Waste and Increasing the Evidence-Base for the Conduct of Randomised Trials: How to Select, Design, and Run Studies Within A Trial (SWATs)” led by Dr. Adwoa Parker.
This interactive workshop is designed to provide practical, hands-on advice on the selection, design, implementation and reporting of studies within a trial (SWATs), with the aim of improving the evidence-base on the most effective approaches to conducting randomised controlled trials. Dr. Parker will share insights on state-of-the-art methodologies and the importance of coordinated and collaborative work in generating high-quality evidence efficiently. This workshop will empower trial teams to make informed decisions in their research endeavors.

Dr. Adwoa Parker is a trial methodologist, a UK National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Advanced Fellow and leads the Trial Forge Studies Within A Trial (SWATs) Centre at The University of York (UK). Adwoa’s Advanced Fellowship, ‘IMPLEMENT SWATs’, funded for 10 years, aims to use implementation science and SWATs to improve evidence-informed participant recruitment and retention in trials.
Dr. Parker was previously co-investigator and Programme Manager on PROMETHEUS, a major programme of research funded by the UK Medical Research Council (MRC) to facilitate the routine embedding of a recruitment or retention SWAT in ongoing randomised controlled trials. PROMETHEUS produced the largest body of SWAT activity in the world. For the past 15 years Adwoa has undertaken both trials and trial-methodology research. The overarching ambition of her current research is to facilitate better methods, for better research, for better health care and better health.
