The George Institute is a leading independent global medical research institute established and headquartered in Sydney, with additional major centres in China, India and the UK and an international network of experts and collaborators. With over 700 people globally, projects in more than 50 countries and affiliations with world-class universities, our mission is to improve the health of millions of people worldwide by challenging the status quo and using innovative approaches to prevent and treat non-communicable diseases and injury. Our work aims to generate effective, evidence-based and affordable solutions to the world’s biggest health challenges. We research the chronic and critical conditions that cause the greatest loss of life, the greatest impairment of life quality and the most substantial economic burden, particularly in resource-poor settings.
In 2018, The George Institute was ranked the number-one independent research institute in Australia by Times Higher Education.
The Centre for Operational and Research Excellence (CORE)
CORE’s mission is to provide high-quality expertise as well as robust operations, systems and processes to support the entire research lifecycle including funding applications, project operations, data management and statistics. The CORE team has extensive expertise in the design and conduct of multicentre randomised clinical trials with a strong track record in critical care and cardio-metabolic diseases.
Evidence-based trial conduct
We believe that evidence-based clinical research conduct is an important way to improve the quality of clinical trials and minimise waste. Our focus is on the development of novel and efficient approaches to data collection and monitoring. For each focus area, our aim is to systematically appraise the existing evidence and test newly-developed methods using SWATs.
